Sky+ vs You View (Product Review)
I find it interesting in our modern forward thinking times that one of the biggest features of the new technology in television is the ability to go backwards.
Our lives are so fast that when we are given the chance to pause and rewind live TV or go back through the TV schedule and watch thing we have missed, using Catch up TV, we lap it up.
When YouView launched last year led by Lord Sugar and declared that its intention was to make Freeview a thing of the past I had my doubts. But it seems to be gaining traction and BT’s version BT Vision+ could well give Sky+ some much needed competition.
YouView offers all the Freeview channels and a similar number of niche lifestyle channels as Sky, as well as the free-to-air HD channels (although it doesn’t offer Sky channels). And you don’t even have to miss out on Sky Sports as you can upgrade the BT Vision and get a box with Sky Sports and ESPN on it.
But You View’s main advantage is that it has full seven-day catch-up from BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, 4oD and Demand 5 integrated into its EPG – a feature it calls Scrollback TV. This is a huge improvement over Sky+.
