The Art of Roughhousing (review)

I recently got sent a fabulous book – Art of Roughhousing: Good Old Fashioned Horseplay and Why Every Kid Needs it (2010)
“Roughhousing” is apparently what the American call physical play – what we Brits call “rough and tumble”.

The book is packed full of ideas for physical games you can play with children – all with lovely diagrams and cool names such as Houdini, Magic Carpet Ride and Alaric the Barbarian. And whilst at the moment my baby is too small for many of them I cant wait to play some of the more advanced games and am getting excited just reading about them. After all one of the joys of being a father is that you can be a kid again and I cant wait to spend the afternoon white water rafting on a mattress or having a pillow fight with my daughter.
For all fathers out there I highly recommend it.

Book Review: Tristan Gets A Haircut

Tristan, a fluffy white bichon frise dog, has hair, not fur, and he needs a hair cut. This photo book follows Tristan as he’s brushed, washed, dried, trimmed and clipped at the groomers. It is the second of nine books written about Tristan’s adventures.

It’s is a really cute story about a real life Bichon Frise dog named Tristan and details his grooming experience in his own words. The photos are taken of Tristan throughout his grooming process. The book is designed to enhance the vocabulary of kids at a reading age, but I read this book to my 6 month old daughter and she loved it. She loved all the photos of the dog. The photos are taken of Tristan throughout his grooming process, and she loved his different expressions. I have also read it to my 4 year old nephew and he loved it too.

You can buy Tristan Gets a Haircut on Amazon.
