Last year, Kent Council ran a novel Facebook competition to encourage teachers to move to the county and teach in their schools.
Teachers were asked to write a story of what they thought life could be like if they lived in Kent, with the winner getting an all expenses paid weekend in Kent.
Well the public have voted and the Competition Winner was Kat and her son Charlie and you can now read about their fun filled weekend and watch a video.
It sounds like they had a great time feeding the peacocks and getting lost in the maze at 900 year old Leeds Castle, and admiring the stained glass windows, listening to the world class choir and meeting the cats at the beautiful Canterbury Cathedral. It now makes me want to visit both Canterbury Cathedral and Leeds Castle as they both sound very interesting and look beautiful. (I must admit I always thought Leeds Castle was in Yorkshire, I had no idea it was in Kent! ) Although I have to say that my perfect weekend in Kent would almost certainly involve eating oysters in the fishing town of Whitstable.
The Your Perfect Kent Day competition was a clever idea as it got teachers to visualize not just working but also living in the Garden of England. It’s aim was to encourage teachers to see a career in a Kent school as a life changing opportunity. And fl marks to the council for taking such an innovative approach to recruitment. Although there is no news on whether winner Kat is going to relocate to Kent and teach there.
